The national day was created to commemorate the Polish victory in the Battle
of Warsaw in 1920, also remembered as the Miracle at the Vistula. This year’s
celebrations in Warsaw take place in Aleje Ujazdowskie, near the Belweder Palace
and Marshall Józef Piłsudski monument. The Battle of Warsaw in August of 1920 was the decisive
Polish victory in the Polish - Soviet War (1919-1921). This significant historic
event ensured retaining by the Polish state its independence threatened by the Soviet forces and prevented the
communist revolution from spreading across Western Europe. According to many
historians, the Miracle at the Vistula has been one of the most important
battles in the history of the world.
