Every pupil in England will be expected to have memorised their times tables before leaving primary school under new government plans.

The tests will be piloted in 80 primary schools this summer, before being rolled out across the country in 2017.

Every child will have to know their times tables off by heart by the age of 11 as part of the Government's 'war on inumeracy'

Education secretary Nicky Morgan has announced that primary school children will have to sit new computerised maths exams from next year.

The tests will go up to and include the 12 times table and schools have been warned that they will be held to account if pupils do not make the grade.
