A rhubarb-based drug could make cancer crumble.
Research has shown that an orange-coloured chemical in the autumn vegetable has powerful anti-cancer properties.
Parietin, which is also found in lichen, can zap cells in leukaemia, as well as lung and head and neck tumours.
However, healthy cells are untouched.
This is important because many of the debilitating side-effects of chemotherapy, from nausea to hair loss, are caused by healthy cells suffering collateral damage.
