Birdwatching lub birding czyli podglądanie, czy też obserwowanie ptaków, to niezwykle popularne hobby wśród mieszkańców Wielkiej Brytanii i Stanów Zjednoczonych. Liczbę brytyjskich "ptasiarzy" szacuje się na kilka milionów, a amerykańskich nawet na kilkanaście.
Określenie birdwatcher pojawiło się pod koniec XIX wieku, a słowa bird jako czasownika użyto po raz pierwszy w roku 1918.
Sama uważam się za ptasiarza. Oczywiście nie chce mi się włóczyć po lasach i bagnach, skoro można swoje hobby uprawiać w bardziej komfortowych warunkach. W dzisiejszych czasach najłatwiej być ptasiarzem internetowym. Jest to pasjonujące zajęcie. Codziennie obserwuję ptaki z różnych zakątków świata przez kamery internetowe

English bluebells
Początek maja to czas, gdy na południowym wschodzie Anglii podziwiać można całe polany błękitnych kwiatów.
The bluebell is probably one of Britain’s best known wildflowers. No-one can fail to marvel at the beautiful sight of a spring woodland carpeted in blue. We enjoy their wild beauty and their sweet scent, as well as the hum of emerging insects which rely on them as a source of food.
Here in East Anglia these seasonal wonders are not as common as elsewhere, because there simply aren’t as many suitable areas of woodland or heathland for bluebells to thrive. These bulbs prefer to be in shade during the summer and in areas where it is not too wet, so the wide open spaces and boggy Fens in this region are not suitable. Morel mushrooms.
Te piękne, wiosenne grzyby wyrosły niespodziewanie koło mojego domu.
To smardze, grzyby jadalne, choć jeszcze tego nie sprawdziłam i na razie nie zamierzam.
Ich angielska nazwa to przykład tak zwanych "false friends", czyli słów, które mają podobne brzmienie w obcym języku, jednak odmienne znaczenie.
Smardz to po angielsku morel, a morela to apricot.
To smardze, grzyby jadalne, choć jeszcze tego nie sprawdziłam i na razie nie zamierzam.

Yosemite Firefall.
Tylko raz w roku w Parku Narodowym Yosemite, w Kalifornii podziwiać można niezwykłe zjawisko. Pod koniec lutego promienie zachodzącego słońca zamieniają wodospad Horsetail Fall w wodospad ognia (ogniospad ? ;) . Jeśli chcielibyście zrobić fotografię płonącego wodospadu należy zarezerwować miejsce w hotelu na wiele miesięcy wcześniej.
Hundreds of photographers have swarmed to Yosemite national park to catch a rare glimpse of a “firefall” – a phenomenon that makes it appear as if water has turned into lava, flowing from a volcano. For about 10 days each February, sunlight illuminates Horsetail Fall in a way that looks like lava is tumbling down the rock face. The light show can prove elusive – local photographers said this is the first February in four years in which conditions have been ideal to capture the firefall.

Hogweed
Barszcz Sosnowskiego, trująca roślina, którą w latach 50-tych ubiegłego wieku nieopatrznie sprowadzono do Polski, jest problemem także w Wielkiej Brytanii.

The Day of The White Stork
Choć biały orzeł widnieje w godle naszego kraju, to bocian jest ptakiem, który wzbudza w Polsce największą sympatię i szacunek.
Dziś obchodzimy Dzień Bociana Białego.
The event was launched in 2003 by Pro Natura, the Polish Society of Friends of Nature. Meetings, performances and exhibitions are taking place across the country, highlighting both the splendour of the species as well as the need to protect the birds. According to naturalists, about 50,000 pairs of the birds nest in Poland each year, which amounts to a fifth of the world's white stork population. In short, nowhere else in the world are you more liable to meet the long-beaked fellows. Storks tend to make their distinctive nests – which can reach a diameter of two metres – on tall trees, but they are also accustomed to building them on telegraph poles or chimneys. He wants us to get voting for the feathered friend that best personifies Great Britain. “We put a committee of bird lovers and experts together and they came up with a long list of 60. These amazing images reveal a kaleidoscope of colours in icy caves underneath a glacier.
The rainbow caves are given their various colours by light refracting through the ice - with the thicker the ice, the more emerald they appear.
And a photographer, from Kamchatka, in the Russian Far East, also decided to add his own take - by lighting flares and breathing fire to turn the normally blue hues into dark reds.

W królewskich ogrodach Pałacu Buckingham znaleziono muchomory, które brytyjskie media określają mianem
"psychedelic mushrooms which can cause vivid hallucinations". Żeby było śmieszniej rzecznik Pałacu Buckingham zapewnia, że grzyby nie są podawane Jej Wysokości.

TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh was surprised to find psychedelic mushrooms which cause vivid hallucinations growing in the garden at Buckingham Palace.
The presenter found the red and white spotted toadstool called Amanita muscaria while filming an ITV gardening show called The Queen's Garden and said: 'I won't be eating any of that.'
He was touring the private 40-acre site with ecology expert Professor Mick Crawley and asked him whether the fungi is edible.
Professor Crawley replied saying: 'That depends what you mean. It's eaten in some cultures for its hallucinogenic effects. But it also makes people who eat it very sick.

But the intricate constructions are actually the work of money spiders who have released the silk webs as part of an elaborate escape plan.
The mass of gossamer strands were found spread over a 130 feet wide area of scrub and grassland at a nature reserve in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.
