Po decyzji o opuszczeniu Unii Europejskiej nadeszła dla Brytyjczyków chwila refleksji.  Któż teraz będzie zrywał nasze truskawki??? I to jest bardzo DOBRE PYTANIE. 

Reporter BBC rozmawiał na ten temat z osobami, które obecnie wykonują tę ciężką prace.

So far, unemployed people in the UK have proven reluctant to take on these jobs.
"The English don't like to work like us," says Roxana. "They will never come to work on a farm.
"If they come, they want to be someone high [up], to be a supervisor or a manager, but not to pick."
Forklift truck team leader Andis Ivkins agrees. "I don't believe they'll send us home," he says. "I don't believe the English people will come and pick fruit."

"If there's a leaf in the way, the robots can't see it. They go past, whereas we, as humans, have the intelligence to move the leaf."

The Penny Black.

6 maja 1840 roku poczta brytyjska wprowadziła do użytku pierwszy na świecie znaczek pocztowy.
Nazwano go Penny Black czyli czarna jednopensówka, a na znaczku widniał portret młodej królowej Wiktorii.

The story of the Penny Black, the world's first-ever adhesive postage stamp, begins with a man named Rowland Hill who triggered a period of vast postal reform.

Hill, an English teacher, inventor and social reformer, calculated that it made more financial sense to price deliveries by weight.

Until then, the cost of delivery of a letter was paid by the recipient - and the price was dependent on the number of miles travelled and the size of the letter.

English bluebells

Początek maja to czas, gdy na południowym wschodzie Anglii podziwiać można całe polany błękitnych kwiatów.

The bluebell is probably one of Britain’s best known wildflowers. No-one can fail to marvel at the beautiful sight of a spring woodland carpeted in blue. We enjoy their wild beauty and their sweet scent, as well as the hum of emerging insects which rely on them as a source of food. 
Here in East Anglia these seasonal wonders are not as common as elsewhere, because there simply aren’t as many suitable areas of woodland or heathland for bluebells to thrive. These bulbs prefer to be in shade during the summer and in areas where it is not too wet, so the wide open spaces and boggy Fens in this region are not suitable. Buckingham Palace through the keyhole

Google oferuje wirtualną wizytę po królewskim pałacu.

Ever wondered what it must be like to live in the Queen’s official residence, Buckingham Palace, if you can’t visit it yourself?

Well, a new virtual reality tour of the famous royal home is about to bring it to life.

The Royal Collection Trust, the charity which manages the historic building, has teamed up with Google Expeditions to take users on a free ‘virtual field trip’ of the palace from anywhere in the world, simply by using their smart phone, from today.

And while the Queen hasn’t had the chance to try out the experience for herself as she is still in residence at Sandringham, it is understood that she is aware of the project and has given it her seal of approval.

Pupils 'to memorise times tables by 11.

British children are learning to talk with American accents because of a flood of cheap TV programmes being imported from the US, it has been claimed. 

Anne Wood, creator of Teletubbies, In the Night Garden, said that it is happening because not enough children's TV is being made in the UK leaving viewers with no other options.

'Children's programme-making in this country is in danger of getting obliterated,' said Anne, 78, a BAFTA award-winning producer.

'You are getting children playing in the playground and talking in American accents because of all the programmes they are getting from there. There is a predominance of cheap American imports.'

Those sparkly, glowing orbs are back for a third year. The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on will see 1778 snowball-like decorations (and their 750,000 LED lightbulbs) lit up once again for what is the fifty-sixth year the road has been decorated for the festive period. In a subtle upgrade from last year's display, 445 new golden baubles will twinkle among the existing silver lights.

For the first time ever the switch-on event on Sunday November 1 will see West Oxford Street closed to traffic (2pm-6.30pm), with special offers available in many of the shops. Kylie Minogue will do the honours, and a stage outside the Pandora Marble Arch store will host live musical performances and celebrity presenters from 5.30pm – look out for Foxes, Fleur East, singer-songwriter Gabrielle Alpin, 'X-Factor' winner Ben Haenow and performers from 'Matilda the Musical'.

Unhappy children

Przeprowadzone w piętnastu krajach badania poziomu szczęścia i zadowolenia z życia, ujawniły, że brytyjskie dzieci czują się nieszczęśliwe. W rankingu Wielka Brytania znalazła się na przedostatnim miejscu. Bardziej nieszczęśliwym można być tylko w Korei Południowej.
Badaniami objęto 53 tysiące dzieci w wieku od 8 do 12 lat. Najszczęśliwsze dzieci mieszkają w Rumunii, Kolumbii i Hiszpanii. Polska na 4 miejscu (od końca oczywiście).

Zadaniem Hudsona było odnalezienie przejścia północno-zachodniego i północno wschodniego z Europy na Daleki Wschód. Celu nigdy nie osiągnął ale "przy okazji" dokonał wielkich odkryć. Urodził się w 1565 roku w Londynie ale data jego śmierci nie jest znana. Załoga, która miała już dość szalonych pomysłów i nie podzielała jego odkrywczych pasji, zbuntowała się i odpłynęła. do domu zostawiając Hudsona gdzieś  na brzegu..Podjęte przez Anglię poszukiwania nie przyniosły żadnych rezultatów.

Tytuł księcia Walii przyznawany jest najstarszemu żyjącemu synowi panującego brytyjskiego monarchy. W naszym kraju nieśmiało zapowiada się walkę ze śmieciowym jedzeniem, która ma polegać na zakazie sprzedaży niezdrowej żywności na terenie szkoły. Wielka Brytania inaczej sobie z tym problemem poczyna. Nauczyciele mają prawo kontrolować przynoszone do szkoły jedzenie a nawet odbierać je uczniom.

Now ministers have backed the move, giving staff freedom to 'confiscate, keep or destroy' anything deemed to break school policies and setting out the procedure for carrying out lunchbox inspections
