January is named after the Roman god, Janus, the god of doors because this month is the door to the year. The Roman god Janus represents all beginnings and possesses the ability to see all things past and future.

Old calendars

Czy pozbywanie się starych kalendarzy to na pewno dobry pomysł? Okazuje się, że nie zawsze. Jeśli nie kupiliście jeszcze kalendarza na nowy rok radzę przejrzeć przechowywane w domu starocie i makulaturę. What to do in November.

W każdą niedzielę podczas gotowania obiadu umilam sobie czas słuchaniem radia Zet, Akurat w tym czasie nadawana jest audycja Beaty Pawlikowskiej "Świat według blondynki". Jestem fanką Pani Beaty, szczerze ja podziwiam i z przyjemnością i zainteresowaniem słucham tego, co ma do przekazania słuchaczom.
Dziś tematem audycji był listopad, który nie jest chyba niczyim ulubionym miesiącem.
Pogoda nastraja pesymistycznie i raczej nie zachęca do wychodzenia z domu. Jak to znosić? Najlepiej byłoby zmienić się w niedźwiedzia i spać do wiosny.
Według pani Pawlikowskiej nie musi to być wcale czas stracony, a wręcz przeciwnie - brak atrakcji na zewnątrz sprzyja podejmowaniu działań, które wymagają skupienia i koncentracji. Jest to więc najlepsza pora na NAUKĘ JĘZYKA. October

Szukałam na You Tube jakiejś piosenki, która pasowałby do dzisiejszej pogody i mojego nastroju. Szukałam, szukałam i w końcu wygrzebałam stary utwór irlandzkiej grupy rockowej U2 pod tytułem October. Piosenka pochodzi z albumu pod tym samym tytułem wydanego w roku 1981.  Rok później utwór wykorzystano w filmie They Call It an Accident .
Kiedy pierwszy raz słuchałam tej piosenki miałam wrażenie, że October jest utworem instrumentalnym. Całość trwa około 2 i pół minuty ,a pierwsze słowa (  nie ma ich zbyt wiele) padają po 1 minucie i 35 sekundach.:

Why is September called September?

Why is the ninth month of the year called September? It is easy to explain.
Old Roman calendar began the year in March so September was the seventh month of the year.
"Septem" means "seven" in Latin.
Czyli nazwę zawdzięczamy Rzymianom, dla których wrzesień był siódmym miesiącem roku. Podobnie można wyjaśnić pochodzenie nazw kolejnych miesięcy

Zaczął się lipiec, pierwszy letni miesiąc. Podobno ma być bardzo gorący. Dobrze, że dziś nie padało, bo zgodnie z przytoczonym przeze mnie angielskim przysłowiem, pierwszy dzień lipca z deszczem oznacza mniej więcej cztery deszczowe tygodnie.
