The French capital topped the table of 100 of the globe's most cultured and fashionable places with London still managing to beat stylish contenders from everywhere else on the planet.

The wide-ranging list looked at factors from architectural beauty to accessibility to how each place was perceived by those who lived, worked or visited.Cleanliness, culture and style were also included with the scores provided by fashion experts, architects and others

With the exception of New York, every other city in the top ten was in Europe with Italy providing four of them and France two - Paris and Bordeaux. Vienna came third and Barcelona sixth.

The only other British cities to feature in the full list of 100 - compiled by fashion app Zalando - were Edinburgh at 38 and Brighton at 69 while Tokyo was the only non-European or American city in the top 30.

Alaska Day.

Dziś w Stanach Zjednoczonych obchodzony jest Dzień Alaski.

The Alaska Day festival is annually celebrated in the city of Sitka, Alaska. The three-day festival usually involves: a mayor’s proclamation; a costume ball featuring period costumes; dance performances; races; a concert; an army band; an air-sea rescue demonstration; an open house on board a coast guard cutter or naval vessel; and tea at the Pioneer’s Home.

On Alaska Day many people involved in the armed forces join in a memorial service at the Sitka National Cemetery and in a parade throughout the city’s business district. School bands, marching units and costumed participants are among the many people who participate in the parade. A re-enactment of the 1867 ceremony also occurs on this day – it involves the lowering of the Russian flag and the raising of the United States flag on top of Castle Hill, accompanied by ceremonial music.

Poland sealed their first World Cup spot since the 2006 tournament after an early onslaught and a late flourish, including a goal from the excellent Robert Lewandowski, gave them a 4-2 home win over Montenegro on Sunday.

The result left Poland top of Group E with 25 points from 10 games, five ahead of second-placed Denmark who sealed a playoff berth after a 1-1 home draw with Romania.

The Polish national football squad has qualified for next year’s World Cup in Russia after defeating Montenegro 4-2 in their last qualifying match in Warsaw on Sunday.

Despite missing several influential players such as Arkadiusz Milik through injury, Poland finished top of their qualifying Group E on 25 points, ahead of Denmark, which made the playoffs after drawing with Romania 1-1 at home on Sunday.This marks the eighth time Poland have qualified for the World Cup.

GRAMA TO NIE DRAMA.

Czy czytaliście kiedyś dla przyjemności książkę do gramatyki? Pewnie pomyślicie, że zwariowałam, ale to jest możliwe. Kiedy kilka dni temu zobaczyłam na Facebooku informację o tym, że Arlena Witt wydała książkę nie wahałam się ani sekundy. W ciągu pierwszej godziny sprzedano ponad 800 egzemplarzy. Serwer był tak mocno szturmowany przez fanów Arleny, że na złożenie zamówienia trzeba było czekać ponad 20 minut. W końcu udało mi się i moje zamówienie zarejestrowano pod numerem 1051. Wczoraj listonosz dostarczył mi przesyłkę (załapałam się na egzemplarz z autografem) i oto moje pierwsze wrażenia.

• Jeśli do tej pory mieliście do czynienia z podręcznikami, które zawiłości gramatyki angielskiej tłumaczą w sposób: " Forma would w grupie werbalnej mającej aspekt Perfect Continuous występuje tylko w zdaniach złożonych" , to w tym opracowaniu tego nie znajdziecie. Arlena pisze w sposób prosty i zabawny, że zrozumiałby ją nawet Kubuś Puchatek, który był misiem o bardzo małym rozumku i długie słowa sprawiały mu trudność. Wplata w tekst dowcipy, cytaty z filmów i piosenek i udowadnia, że gramatyka wcale nie musi być nudna.
• Dla kogo właściwe jest ta książka? Na pewno nie dla wszystkich.  Moim zdaniem dla osób powyżej 15-tego roku życia, czyli minimum licealistów lub trzecioklasistów gimnazjum. Sięgać będą po nią nauczyciele poszukujący inspiracji. Już po przeczytaniu wstępu doszłam do wniosku, że będę teraz wymagać od uczniów aby jak najwięcej pisali w zeszytach, bo  im więcej piszemy, tym więcej zapamiętujemy.
• Tą książką nie można się dzielić i nie powinno się jej nikomu pożyczać i to jest chyba jedyna jej wada. To oczywiście moje prywatne zdanie. Dlaczego nie? Bo jest jak "dwa w jednym" czyli  podręcznik z ćwiczeniówką. Jest tu miejsce na rozwiązywanie zadań, na robienie notatek, do czego Autorka zachęca. Jeśli ktoś wykaże się systematycznością i determinacją i "przerobi" wszystkie rozdziały (jest ich 100), to po zakończeniu pracy będzie w posiadaniu czegoś w rodzaju  pamiętnika, w którym będą spisane jego potyczki z gramatyką angielską. Nie wyobrażam sobie aby coś tak osobistego udostępniać innej osobie.
• Książka jest warta swojej ceny i atrakcyjna pod względem graficznym ( 99 PLN za dwa tomy, płacąc tę kwotę fundujesz jeden ciepły posiłek w ramach programu Pajacyk, przesyłka jest bezpłatna). I jeszcze jedna uwaga: książki nie ma w księgarniach, można ją kupić wyłącznie przez internet http://arlena.altenberg.pl/

MAM NADZIEJĘ, ŻE POMOGŁAM ;) w promocji książki.

Danube - po polsku Dunaj, to druga co do wielkości rzeka Europy. Ma 1800 kilometrów długości i przepływa przez 10 państw.
